Simple Social Media Tips for Bloggers by Phoebe

When I first started blogging, I was unbelievably shy about mentioning my blog to anyone. Don’t get me wrong, I was proud of Phee’s Makeup Tips and the stuff I was putting out there, but for some reason I just couldn’t bring myself to do some self-promotion.

But some shameless self-promotion is what can really drive visitors to your blog and get you noticed. Whether it be on Twitter, Facebook or any other social media platform, if you go about it the right way being a bit self obsessed can do wonders for your blog.
First off, find other bloggers. By doing this you’re talking to people who share the same interests as you and who are probably going to be interested your blog. For me, talking to other beauty bloggers made me realise what I was doing wasn’t all that weird, and gave me more confidence to talk about my blog to other people.

There are plenty of ways to get involved with the blogger community, some you might know of, and some you might not. Twitter is massively popular with beauty bloggers and pretty much every other blogger out there. It wasn’t until I signed up for Twitter that I really became involved with the blogger community and got talking to other bloggers. You can find weekly chats that use hashtags which give you the chance to talk about specific topics, get some advice about your blog and find new blogs to read. More often than not brands keep an eye on these too.

Including brands when you’re thinking about how to promote your blog is pretty important too. As a blogger you’re providing impartial feedback and advice on what a brand has to offer. No matter how big or small you are, what you’re writing is going to affect someone’s decision on whether to part with their hard earned cash. This is what makes you valuable to brands.

If you’re on Twitter, mention them; on Facebook, post to their page; on Instagram, tag them. Be persistent about it too. If a brand has say, 45k followers, they might be flooded with mentions and tags. Keep at it and you’re sure to attract attention, if it’s a positive post they might share it, if it’s negative they’ll probably ask you why. Joanne Heggie, who looks after social media at Benefit UK, told me that Twitter and Facebook are a great way for them to find feedback on products, because these are people’s true opinions.

These are only two ways I connect with bloggers and brands, there are plenty of other websites that you can use - such as Hellocotton or Baobella - to promote your blog. But Twitter and Facebook tend to be the most commonly used by brands and bloggers alike to get out there and get connected. All you need is the confidence to get tweeting, sharing and posting and you’ll get noticed in no time!

Spring Beauty Trends by Marie

Thank goodness for the spring of 2013, because it brings “makeup” back into stores. I am so sick of seeing just nail polish everywhere. I like it but there is only so much I can take of it. What do I love? I love wearing bright purple eye shadow. I love any bright liquid eye liner. Thank goodness for the spring beauty trends this year!

Not only have all the brands brought back their best products, but all of their products are colorful. Vivid. I am in love with the bright, saturated colors that are out now. For spring Maybelline has come out with gorgeous, bright lipsticks with color so vibrant that it will cheer anyone up! If you do want to wear the bright lipstick, my advice is to not pair up intense eye shadow with vibrant lip color. That is way too much for the average person on the street. It is best left to the runways. If you are wearing exuberant, flashy eye shadow, try a nude lip. On the other hand, if you are wearing light nude eye shadow, try a vibrant lipstick.

Pantone, the company that decides the colors for printing, decorating, cosmetics, etc., has decided that the Color of the Year for 2013 is Emerald. A beautiful color mind you but a color that is not easy for everyone to wear. Sephora has come out with a huge collection to go with the Color of the Year: a full collection that will empty your wallet! I am so much in love with this because green is one of my favorite colors (I am a redhead). I cannot be one of the models on the website, but with a little help I imagine that I am one of them…my favorite product from their collection is their little pack of liquid eyeliners (Glitter Strobe Eyeliner Set). I love to line my eyes. This has four eyeliners with different finishes: metallic, matte, holographic and shimmer.

However, my favorite trend has to be from Illamasqua, I’mperfection. It is based on everyone’s natural flaws. And celebrates them! If you have freckles, let them show! Scars, birthmarks? Don’t hide them! Illamasqua is at the forefront of modern beauty. With every campaign they challenge what it means to be beautiful. This spring they show us that we are naturally beautiful. They even take the Pantone Color of the Year and put it into a bright green lipgloss, called Shoot. My favorite item of their new collection is their new matte bright pink lipstick called Immodest. All of their products are made of the highest quality, with great pigmentation. Illamasqua has to be the best brand on the market today.
So, color is key this spring. Go out and buy some colorful lipstick or eye shadow. The brighter the better!

Celeb Style: Kate Middleton

Hey, ladies! I'm a guest blogger with you today from RINA's beauty and I hope you like it! I don't have many fashion idols as I'd rather do my own thing, but one famous face that I do admire is Kate Middleton. I think she dresses so elegantly and timelessly. Her style is so classical, that even in 50 years time her outfits will still look stylish. I love that she wears such simple pieces, often from 'commoner' brands such as LK Bennett and Zara.

As I was attempting to make this Kate Middleton fashion collage, I was amazed that I love every single one of her outfits! I think she gets it right every time, whether shes attending a glamorous Royal gathering, or playing hockey. Some people say she dresses 'too old for her age' but personally I think as a young Royal, she dresses very 'trendy' but also regally. She's not seen in over the top styles, just simple and understated outfits, fit for a princess.
Also I think she is so beautiful, and has the most friendly smile! I love her flowing, effortlessly styled brunette hair, and minimal make up that manages to accentuate her natural beauty. I think she is the perfect addition to the Royal Family, and over the time that she's been in the spotlight since marrying Prince William, she has stepped out in some truely beautiful pieces, looking completely stunning.
My favourite dresses from these images are the: flowing lilac Alexander McQueen gown (4), 50's style Jenny Packham pastel yellow tea dress (7), and another Jenny Packham gown, the low-cut turquoise dress (15). Which one is your favourite?
